Barry D. Jordan, MD, MPH

Burke Rehabilitation Hospital announces that Barry D. Jordan, MD, MPH, has been selected as one of the Best Doctors for Neurology by New York Magazine. Dr. Jordan serves as Assistant Medical Director and Director of Neurorehabilitation at Burke Rehabilitation Hospital. It is the 16th consecutive year he has been on the publication’s prestigious Best Doctors list, a compilation based on a peer-review survey.

Dr. Jordan is a board-certified neurologist with specialized interests in sports neurology, Alzheimer’s disease and traumatic brain injury. He is an Associate Professor of Clinical Neurology at Weill Medical College of Cornell University and a team physician for USA Boxing. For 13 years, he served as the chief medical officer of the New York State Athletic Commission.

Currently, Dr. Jordan serves as a medical advisory physician for NFL Player Benefits and is a member of the NFL Players Association Mackey-White Health and Safety Committee. He is also on the NCAA Concussion Task Force and the Pop Warner Medical Advisory Committee. As a leading expert in traumatic brain injury, he is the author/coauthor of four books on sports neurology and is regularly quoted in the national media.

Dr. Jordan, who joined Burke Rehabilitation Hospital in 1999, has completed a fellowship in public health at Cornell University Medical College, a clinical neurology fellowship at New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center, a fellowship in sports neurology at the Hospital for Special Surgery and a fellowship in behavioral neurology at UCLA Medical Center. He earned a BA from the University of Pennsylvania, an MD from Harvard Medical School and a Master’s of Public Health from Columbia University.


CareMount Medical, the largest independent multispecialty medical group in New York state, announces the appointment of three new physicians in internal medicine, surgery, and obstetrics and gynecology.

They are:


Asna Amin, MD

Asna Amin, MD, general and colorectal surgery: Dr. Amin received her MD at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Medicine and completed her general surgery internship and residency at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. She completed a fellowship in colorectal surgery at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and is board-certified in general surgery and colon and rectal surgery. Prior to joining CareMount Medical, Dr. Amin was chief of colorectal surgery at Eisenhower Army Medical Center, Fort Gordon, Georgia. Dr. Amin will be practicing in the Columbia (Poughkeepsie) and Westage (Fishkill) offices and will have privileges at MidHudson Regional Hospital and Vassar Brothers Medical Center.


Young Han, MD

Young Han, MD, internal medicine: Dr. Han received his MD from The Catholic University of Korea College of Medicine, Seoul, South Korea, and completed his internal medicine internship at Flushing Hospital Medical Center. He is board-certified in internal medicine and prior to joining CareMount Medical was an associate physician at Scarsdale Medical Group. Dr. Han will be located at CareMount’s Jefferson Valley office and has privileges at NYP/Hudson Valley Hospital.


Jyothi Parapurath, MD

Jyothi Parapurath, MD, obstetrics and gynecology: Dr. Parapurath received her Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery at JSS Medical College in Mysore, India. She completed her residency in OB/GYN at Robert Wood Johnson Hospital, University of Medicine and Dentistry, and Bridgeport Hospital/Yale New Haven University. Dr. Parapurath is board-certified in OB/GYN, and prior to joining CareMount was an attending physician at NewYork-Presbyterian Medical Group and OB/GYN at NYP/Hudson Valley Hospital. Dr. Parapurath will be practicing at CareMount’s Putnam Hospital Center, Carmel and Mahopac offices, with privileges at Putnam Hospital Center.



Yan Li, MD, FACC

Cardiologist Yan Li, MD, FACC, recently became a member of Phelps Medical Associates, the multispecialty medical group of Phelps Hospital. Dr. Li has been an active member of the Phelps Hospital medical staff since 2006. Board-certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease and nuclear cardiology, Dr. Li is also a Registered Physician in Vascular Interpretation (RPVI). Prior to joining Phelps Medical Associates, she was an attending cardiologist and director of the echocardiology laboratory at Montefiore Tarrytown Cardiology Associates.

Dr. Li received her undergraduate degree from Harvard University and studied medicine and healthcare management at Tufts University School of Medicine. After graduating with a joint degree of MD and MBA, she completed an internal medicine residency at Lenox Hill Hospital and a fellowship in cardiovascular disease at Mount Sinai Medical Center.



David Goldberg, MD

David Goldberg, MD, a board-certified Columbia University Medical Center internist and infectious disease specialist, joined NewYork-Presbyterian Medical Group Westchester effective July 1. He is practicing at 685 White Plains Road in Eastchester and will soon move to a new medical office in the Vernon Hills (Lord & Taylor) Shopping Center at 700 White Plains Road in Scarsdale.

Dr. Goldberg graduated with high honors from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons and completed an internship and residency in internal medicine, as well as a fellowship in infectious diseases, at Columbia University Medical Center (then Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center). He attended Yale University for undergraduate school, graduating magna cum laude.

Dr. Goldberg is affiliated with NewYork-Presbyterian Lawrence Hospital in Bronxville and NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center in Manhattan. He is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Columbia University Medical Center and an internist with ColumbiaDoctors, the faculty practice of Columbia University Medical Center.



Jock Avolio, MD

Jock Avolio, MD, of Clifton, New Jersey, has joined Northwell Health and its medical group, Northwell Health Physician Partners, as the new Medical Director of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Phelps Hospital. Dr. Avolio is a board-certified physiatrist (rehabilitation specialist) with more than 20 years of clinical experience. Prior to joining Phelps, he worked for 21 years as an inpatient physiatrist at Beth Israel Medical Center.

Dr. Avolio has a special interest in the management of hospitalized rehabilitation patients who require multidisciplinary treatments for a wide range of disabling conditions. He has spent many years treating outpatients in a practice geared toward the conservative management of neck and low-back pain and Parkinson’s disease, as well as patients with a history of falls, especially the elderly.

Dr. Avolio received an MD and PhD from Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He completed a residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation in 1995 at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons and served as chief resident in 1994-1995. He earned his PhD in the department of anatomy and cell biology at Albert Einstein, where he taught gross anatomy to medical students for several years.



Yigal Samocha, MD, FAAOS

A board-certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in spine surgery, Yigal Samocha, MD, FAAOS, has been appointed to the medical staff at MidHudson Regional Hospital, a member of Westchester Medical Center Health Network. Dr. Samocha will assist in developing a dedicated multispecialty spine care center in the Mid Hudson Valley to treat a wide variety of neck and back problems.

Prior to returning to the Hudson Valley, Dr. Samocha spent six years as a spine surgeon in private practice in Houston. He earned his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas at Austin and his medical degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas before serving his residency at Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla.

He also completed a prestigious one-year fellowship at the renowned Texas Back Institute.



Michael L. Innerfield, MD, FACC

Crystal Run Healthcare announces that Michael L. Innerfield, MD, FACC, is now seeing patients at Crystal Run Healthcare’s new location in Suffern, located at 156 Route 59 in suite C-5. He will continue to see patients in Crystal Run’s state-of-the-art West Nyack facility as well. Dr. Innerfield joined Crystal Run Healthcare in March 2017 and provides residents of Rockland County and surrounding areas high-quality cardiac care.

Dr. Innerfield earned his medical degree from New York Medical College in Valhalla and completed his residency in internal medicine at Bronx Municipal Hospital/Hospital of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Bronx. He is board-certified in cardiovascular disease, echocardiography, internal medicine, interventional cardiology and nuclear cardiology, and he completed fellowship training in cardiology and cardiovascular disease at Montefiore Hospital Medical Center in the Bronx. Dr. Innerfield completed additional fellowship training in cardiac catheterization at Cooper Hospital in Camden, New Jersey.
