Monica Gupta, MD, endocrinology and metabolism: Dr. Gupta is board-certified in internal medicine. After receiving her medical education and postgraduate training at Drexel University, Dr. Gupta did a fellowship in endocrinology and served as chief fellow, educating residents in core endocrine topics. She completed her internship and internal medicine residency at Hahnemann University Hospital in Philadelphia.
Varun Kumar, MD, gastroenterology and hepatology: After receiving his medical education from SUNY Stony Brook School of Medicine, Dr. Kumar completed his internship and residency at Yale New Haven Hospital. He stayed at Yale University School of Medicine to complete a clinical research fellowship in gastroenterology and hepatology. Dr. Kumar is board-certified in internal medicine and has expertise in colon cancer screening and prevention, irritable bowel syndrome, gut microbiome dysbiosis, clostridium difficile treatment, esophageal and swallowing disorders, liver disease, inflammatory bowel disease, and endoscopic procedures.
Jennifer LaPorta, MD, family medicine: Dr. LaPorta earned her medical degree from Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in New Jersey and completed her residency in family and community medicine at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia. Her dedication to mentorship and hard work in patient-centered medicine made her a nominee of the Arnold P. Gold Foundation Humanism in Medicine Award in 2016.
Elizabeth Ng, MD, pediatric neurology: Dr. Ng previously attended Mount Sinai School of Medicine and completed her general pediatrics residency at Schneider Children’s Hospital/Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Dr. Ng specialized in child neurology at the Cohen Children’s Medical Center of Hofstra Northwell School of Medicine, followed by a fellowship in clinical neurophysiology/epilepsy at the Comprehensive Epilepsy Center of the Neurosciences Institute at Stony Brook University School of Medicine.
Katie Pandolfo, MD, ophthalmology: Dr. Pandolfo received her medical education from Albany Medical College. She completed her internship in internal medicine and residency in ophthalmology at Albany Medical Center, where she focused on the treatment of cataracts, strabismus and oculoplastic surgery. She is the recipient of numerous academic honors.
A. Garvey Rene, MD, cardiology: Dr. Rene completed fellowships in cardiovascular medicine and interventional cardiology at the University of Pennsylvania. He received his medical education from Weill Cornell Medical College and completed his internal medicine internship and residency at Columbia University Medical Center. He is board-certified in internal medicine and cardiovascular disease. Dr. Rene is also certified with the National Board of Echocardiography.
Manish Dave, MD, hematology and oncology: Dr. Dave is board-certified in internal medicine and provides medical treatments for both blood and cancer disorders. Dr. Dave received his MD from Wake Forest University School of Medicine and completed his internal medicine residency at Rush University Medical Center. He completed a fellowship in hematology and medical oncology at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Montefiore Medical Center.
Ogheneochuko Metitiri, MD, hand and orthopedic surgery: Dr. Metitiri completed his medical education at Weill Cornell Medical College and is board-certified in orthopedic surgery. Dr. Metitiri completed his medical internship at Massachusetts General Hospital, followed by a combined Harvard orthopedic residency program where he performed as the chief resident at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. While completing his fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine, he specialized in hand and upper extremity.
Michael J. Dowling
Northwell Health President and CEO Michael J. Dowling has been named to Modern Healthcare’s 100 Most Influential People in Healthcare for the 11th consecutive year, underscoring his standing as one of the industry’s preeminent leaders.
Dowling, who ranks No. 38 on the 2017 list, is the top-rated hospital executive in New York state, with a long history of service in health and human services, from his time overseeing health, education and human services in former New York Gov. Mario Cuomo’s administration, to his stewardship in leading Northwell’s rise to becoming the state’s largest health system.
That transformation into an $11 billion organization with a culture of care and focus on innovation has helped drive the growth of the health system, which now has 22 hospitals and more than 550 outpatient facilities throughout the New York metropolitan area.
Anna Flattau, MD, MSc, MS
Anna Flattau, MD, MSc, MS, has been named Vice Chair for Clinical Services and Director of Strategic Development in the department of Family and Social Medicine at Montefiore Health System, effective Aug. 1, 2017.
Dr. Flattau will bring her substantial clinical experience from her previous position as a senior vice president at NYC Health + Hospitals and chief clinical officer at OneCity hospital to strengthen Montefiore’s ability to train the next generation of primary care residents and effectively serve low-income patients in a primary care setting. These efforts include ongoing work to develop new models of advanced primary care in community-based settings, including innovative approaches to integrating behavioral health in primary care, as well as health services research investigating the benefits and cost-effectiveness of primary care in population health. Dr. Flattau’s accomplishments span founding Montefiore’s Wound Healing Program in 2007 to serving as an innovation advisor for the national Center for Medicare and Medicaid.
Dr. Flattau graduated from Harvard Medical School and trained at Columbia University and Albert Einstein’s Clinical Research Training Program.
White Plains Hospital welcomes Daniel Sammartino, MD; Haven Caldwell, MD; and Jae Cho, MD, to its Cancer & Blood Specialists of New York Division. Dr. Sammartino, Dr. Caldwell and Dr. Cho are board-certified in internal medicine.
Dr. Sammartino earned his medical degree at New York Medical College, Valhalla. He completed his residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in hematology and oncology at Hofstra Northwell School of Medicine, Manhasset, New York. He is board-certified in hematology, oncology and internal medicine.
Dr. Caldwell earned her medical degree at Kansas City University of Medicine and completed her residency in internal medicine at Mount Sinai-St. Luke’s and Roosevelt Hospitals in New York. She is board-certified in internal medicine. Dr. Caldwell completed her fellowship training in medical oncology and hematology at Northwell Health-North Shore and Long Island Jewish University Hospitals.
Dr. Cho received his medical degree from Albert Einstein College of Medicine and completed his residency in internal medicine at Hofstra North Shore-LIJ in Manhasset, New York. He completed fellowships in hematology and oncology at Hofstra North Shore-LIJ. He is board-certified in internal medicine and eligible for board certification in hematology and oncology.
WESTMED recently announced that Norwalk Medical Group (NMG), with offices at 40 Cross St. in Norwalk, Connecticut, has joined WESTMED. NMG, which has served the community for 50 years in Norwalk, includes 19 board-certified physicians, offering primary care and a wide variety of medical specialties.
