Richard Morel, MD

CareMount Medical announces the appointment of Richard Morel, MD, as the medical group’s new Deputy Chief Medical Officer. Dr. Morel will be responsible for managing CareMount Medical’s physician operations in Putnam, Dutchess and Ulster counties, as well as groupwide initiatives. Dr. Morel has a comprehensive management background in all aspects of clinical, operational, financial, risk and strategic matters. Prior to joining CareMount Medical, Dr. Morel was the co-medical director and vice president of WESTMED in Purchase, New York, where he was responsible for overseeing physicians across the group. From 1998 to 2008, he served as medical director for Columbia Presbyterian Riverdale.

Dr. Morel is board-certified in internal medicine. He graduated from College of the Holy Cross with a Bachelor of Arts degree in chemistry. After receiving his medical degree from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, he completed his postgraduate training at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center. He also received a master of medical management degree from Carnegie Mellon University. He is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and a member of the American Association for Physician Leadership.



Andrew Casden, MD

White Plains Hospital welcomes Andrew Casden, MD, as its new Chief of Orthopedic and Spine Surgery.

Dr. Casden, a board-certified orthopedic spinal surgeon, received his medical education from Cornell University Medical College. He completed his surgical internship at New York Hospital/Cornell Medical Center. He completed his orthopedic residency at the Hospital for Joint Diseases Orthopaedic Institute and a spine fellowship at Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke’s Medical Center in Chicago. Dr. Casden has been consistently named one of New York magazine’s Best Doctors, Castle Connolly’s Top Doctors in the New York Area and a Top Doctor by U.S. News & World Report.

Dr. Casden was previously associate professor of orthopedic surgery at Mount Sinai Medical Center and School of Medicine and associate director of the Spine Institute at Beth Israel Medical Center.

He is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the North American Spine Society and the Scoliosis Research Society.



Steven Meixler, MD

WESTMED Medical Group has announced the appointment of Steven Meixler, MD, as the group’s new Medical Director. Dr. Meixler is also the group’s Vice President. Previously serving as co-medical director, Dr. Meixler is board-certified in internal medicine, pulmonary diseases and critical care medicine. He was awarded his medical degree from Boston University School of Medicine and completed a fellowship in pulmonary and critical care medicine at New York University Medical Center/Bellevue Hospital Center. He is affiliated with White Plains Hospital, where he served as chief of the division of pulmonary and critical care medicine and as director of the Internal Medicine Department.



Vicki Iannotti, MD

The Elizabeth Seton Pediatric Center has announced that Vicki Iannotti, MD, is the new Chief Medical Officer.

Dr. Iannotti, a board-certified pediatrician, has spent her entire career working in Westchester County, beginning at a private practice in Yonkers over 20 years ago. She comes to Elizabeth Seton Pediatric Center from Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital in Valhalla, where she was associate chief of general pediatrics and pediatric hospitalist medicine for the past 12 years.

Dr. Iannotti received her Bachelor of Science from Fordham University and her doctoral degree from Albert Einstein College of Medicine. She served on committees and workgroups at Westchester Medical Center, Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital and New York Medical College. She will continue to fulfill her commitment to education and research in pediatric medicine and the care of medically complex children through collaborative pathways with Boston Children’s Health Physicians, Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital and New York Medical College.



Julia Keltz, MD

Westchester Medical Center recently welcomed OB-GYN Julia Keltz, MD, to the hospital’s medical staff.

Dr. Keltz is a fellowship-trained, minimally invasive gynecologic surgeon who brings to Westchester Medical Center expertise in pelvic pain and minimally invasive surgery with a specialty in robotic surgery, advanced laparoscopic surgery, vaginal surgery and hysteroscopy, as well as office-based procedures.

Dr. Keltz earned her medical degree with distinction in research from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Bronx, where she also completed a Clinical Research Certificate and a Certificate in Public Health. She also holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in health and society from the University of Rochester.

Prior to joining Westchester Medical Center, Dr. Keltz completed a residency in obstetrics and gynecology at New York University Langone Medical Center and a fellowship in minimally invasive gynecologic surgery at Albert Einstein College of Medicine/Montefiore Medical Center.

Born and raised in Westchester County, Dr. Keltz enjoys hiking, being outdoors and spending time with family in her free time.


Crystal Run Healthcare announces new providers who have joined the practice:

Joshua Frenkel, MD, earned his medical degree from New York Medical College in Valhalla and completed his residency in anesthesiology at the University of Chicago. He is board-certified in anesthesiology and completed fellowship training in interventional pain medicine, also at the University of Chicago. Dr. Frenkel specializes in interventional pain medicine and is seeing patients in Monroe and West Nyack.

Yaijie (Jen) Wu, MD, earned her medical degree from the State University of New York Downstate College of Medicine in Brooklyn and completed her residency in neurology at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York. She is board-certified in neurology and completed fellowship training in neuromuscular medicine, also at Mount Sinai Hospital. Dr. Wu specializes in neurology and is seeing patients in West Nyack.


Feinstein Institute for Medical Research Associate Professor Negin Hajizadeh, MD, MPH, and Research Coordinator Sonia Jacome, MSCH, are continuing their collaboration with the community-based organization El Poder de Decidir (El Poder) to improve the education and treatment of asthma patients in the Hispanic community with a second-phase project supported by the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI).

In the first phase of this project, Dr. Hajizadeh’s team, along with El Poder, arranged community meetings throughout Brooklyn and Queens to assess top priorities and concerns regarding asthma care. El Poder is a community-based organization in Queens that empowers Hispanic people to make informed decisions about their health after assessing risks and benefits of different treatment choices. From these meetings, researchers identified areas to examine in the second phase of the study.

The research team will continue to meet with community members via established relationships with El Poder de Decidir to assess which priority the community believes will have the highest potential impact. They will then submit an application to PCORI for the next level of research support in the form of a larger clinical trial.
