Elizabeth Seton Pediatric Center celebrates nursing and CNA excellence during National Nurses Week.

Both awards honor nursing staff who embody the mission of St. Elizabeth Seton through the commitment and service they provide to the residents of the Pediatric Center and their families.

Alavanza has worked at the Pediatric Center for almost 10 years. Cindy Fagella, a Nurse Manager, describes Alavanza as a great innovator with a strong work ethic and keen insight.

“Wilber’s first concern is for the needs of our children, and she knows the children well,” Fagella explains. “She advocates for the children with love, empathy and excellence. This is important because most of our residents cannot advocate for themselves.”

“Who cannot love our children?” Alavanza said as she accepted her award. “Our children are the most special. I am really grateful and I am privileged to be taking care of these children.”

Alexander is described as a team player with a positive attitude who serves as a role model to others. “Aggie promotes the great teamwork necessary to provide quality care,” Fagella says. “She is a treasured employee.” Her career at the Pediatric Center spans 29 years.

“I am so grateful for the clinical expertise and the deep love for our children that both Wilber and Aggie possess,” says Jeanne DeMarzo, Vice President of Clinical Services/Chief Nursing Officer. “They provide extraordinary care that inspires, innovates and influences, and I praise their commitment. There is a quote from our foundress: ‘Take every day as a ring which you must engrave, adorn and embellish with your actions.’ The actions of Wilber and Aggie are awe-inspiring; they go above and beyond every day to help us change lives, one child at a time.”
