Phelps Hospital Northwell Health announced that former interim (acting) Executive Director Eileen Egan, RN, JD, will lead the hospital as its permanent Executive Director, effective immediately. A few months ago, Westchester County became New York’s epicenter of COVID-19. Egan demonstrated incredible grace under pressure and her response was immeasurably valuable to dealing with a significant patient surge while keeping patients and team members safe.

Egan first joined Phelps in 1981 as a charge nurse in the Intensive Care/Critical Care and Medical/Surgical Units. She has been a clinician, administrator and team leader throughout her tenure, which included 17 years as a nurse in the Emergency Department. Egan has been at the heart of the Phelps community. After pursuing a career in law, she returned to Phelps in 2006 and has since succeeded in positions with progressive responsibilities.

Most recently, Egan was Vice President of Administration, where she oversaw the risk management radiology, physical and occupational therapy, hyperbaric medicine, wound healing, cardiovascular respiratory, speech and hearing, and sleep departments. She also served as Director of Quality Assurance and Risk Management, Corporate Compliance Officer, Chief of the Corporate Compliance Committee and Assistant Vice President. Egan is also the recipient of the Phelps Star Award for outstanding service, commitment and attitude, and she was nominated for Nurse of Distinction at Phelps and Emergency Nurse of the Year in Westchester County. She’s also a certified emergency nurse and certified in pediatric advanced life support and advanced cardiac life support. Holding a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the College of New Rochelle, Egan received her Juris Doctorate from Pace University School of Law.



Bonnie Litvack, MD

Bonnie Litvack, MD, radiologist and Medical Director of the Breast Care Center at Northern Westchester Hospital (NWH), has been named president of the Medical Society of the State of New York (MSSNY), the state’s principal nonprofit professional organization, which represents the interests of patients and physicians to assure quality healthcare services for all.

Under Dr. Litvack’s leadership, the Breast Care Center at NWH has been named a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology. Dr. Litvack is fellowship trained in MRI and brings extensive experience in all aspects of women’s imaging, including mammography, to NWH.

Dr. Litvack has served as the President of the Westchester County Medical Society and President of the Westchester Academy of Medicine. She has also served as President of the New York State Radiological Society and Councilor to the American College of Radiology. She is also a delegate to the American Medical Association from the MSSNY.

A cum laude graduate of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Dr. Litvack earned her medical degree at Albany Medical Center. She completed both her internal medicine internship and her diagnostic radiology residency at Stony Brook University and an MRI/body imaging fellowship at New York Hospital-Weill Cornell Medical Center. Dr. Litvack is certified in diagnostic radiology by the American Board of Radiology.



Tara Narula, MD

Tara Narula, MD, Associate Director of the Women’s Cardiovascular Disease Center at Lenox Hill Hospital and Assistant Professor of cardiovascular medicine at the Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell, has been named Senior Medical Correspondent for CBS News after serving as a CBS “This Morning” contributor for the past six years. She will report for all CBS News broadcasts and platforms and will also continue to provide outpatient cardiovascular care at Lenox Hill.

As a medical journalist at CBS, Dr. Narula has reported on a wide range of medical topics, breakthrough scientific studies and the latest wellness trends. Most recently, she has been instrumental in educating the public on the newest developments of the COVID-19 pandemic. Besides her work with CBS, she is a frequent contributor to O, the Oprah Magazine and has been interviewed by a multitude of media outlets on heart health throughout her career.

Dr. Narula, who is board certified in cardiology, nuclear cardiology, echocardiography and internal medicine, joined Lenox Hill as an attending cardiologist in 2010. She served as Director of the cardiology progressive care unit and Director of the cardiology consult service. In 2012, she took on the role of Associate Director of the cardiac care unit and in 2018 was appointed Associate Director of the Women’s Cardiovascular Disease program.

After graduating from Stanford University with degrees in economics and biology, Dr. Narula founded her own small business, Sun Juice Inc. She went on to earn her medical degree from USC Keck School of Medicine, graduating with Alpha Omega Alpha society honors. She completed her residency in internal medicine at Harvard University/Brigham and Women’s Hospital and her fellowship training in cardiology at New York Presbyterian-Weill Cornell Medical Center.

Michael F. Bastone joined MCB in 2014 and is a resident in the Firm’s White Plains office. Bastone is a member of the Firm’s Publications Committee and frequently publishes in the firm’s newsletter, Defense Practice Update, as well as, for MD News. Michael has prior experience handling mass tort and multidistrict litigation involving complex products liability matters along with malpractice defense work. Bastone received his B.A. from Georgetown University and his J.D. from Fordham Law School. He has an Advanced Graduate Certificate in Pharmaceutical and Medical Device Law & Compliance from Seton Hall University Law School.

Jayne L. Brayer joined MCB as Of Counsel in 2016 in the firm’s White Plains Office. Brayer has over 27 years of medical malpractice experience including extensive trial experience. Brayer focuses her practice on the defense of medical malpractice, dental malpractice and product liability matters, defending client physicians, dentists, medical groups, hospitals, and healthcare systems. Brayer began her legal career as a Bronx Assistant District Attorney and has worked both in-house and in law firms. Prior to returning to MCB, she was a field litigation attorney at Liberty Mutual. She has been an Adjunct Professor at Mercy College for approximately 20 years teaching Constitutional Law, Introduction to Rules of Evidence and other undergraduate pre-law and paralegal studies courses. Brayer obtained her J.D. from Pace University School of Law and her B.A. from Temple University.

Conrad A. Chayes Jr. joined the firm in 2018 in the New York City office. Chayes is an accomplished attorney with extensive experience; he defends client physicians, hospitals, healthcare delivery systems and premier academic medical centers in medical malpractice matters. He has experience handling a full caseload of medical, dental, hospital and nursing home malpractice defense actions, as well as, healthcare, large residential, and municipal facilities and entities in general liability matters. He also has experience defending medical and dental practitioners in licensing and disciplinary matters before the New York Office of Professional Medical Conduct and of the Office of Professional Discipline. Chayes received his B.S. from Siena College and his J.D. from Touro College Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law Center. While at Siena College, Chayes clerked for a top-ranked law firm in London.

Elizabeth Sandonato joined the firm as Of Counsel in 2017 in the Long Island Office. She is a highly accomplished civil litigation attorney specializing in medical malpractice, nursing home negligence and general negligence law for over 16 years. An experienced strategist with an exceptional ability to identify case issues, strategize defense, and obtain successful and pragmatic outcomes, Sandonato successfully brings matters to resolution through mediations and settlements and has a very high summary judgment motion success rate. She has obtained multiple defense verdicts in various counties in New York throughout her career and has argued in the appellate division. Sandonato brings risk management experience from the client’s perspective to the MCB team. Sandonato received her J.D. from St. John’s University School of Law and her B.A. from Binghamton University.
