White Plains Hospital is pleased to welcome orthopedic surgeon Steven M. Andelman, MD, to its Physician Associates Division. He specializes in adult and pediatric sports medicine, providing comprehensive surgical and non-surgical care for orthopedic conditions of the shoulder, elbow, hip, knee, and ankle.

After receiving his medical degree from Georgetown University, Dr. Andelman completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at Mount Sinai Medical Center, serving as Administrative Chief Resident during his final year. He went on to complete a fellowship in sports medicine at the University of Connecticut, where he had the opportunity to learn from leading experts within the field of sports medicine while caring for high school, collegiate and professional athletes. As part of his fellowship, Dr. Andelman received extensive training in pediatric sports medicine and management of injuries in young athletes.

Dr. Andelman has published on a wide range of topics in pediatric and adult sports medicine. He has presented his work at national and international meetings and is the author of more than 50 peer-reviewed publications, presentations, book chapters and video presentations on topics such as management of pediatric elbow injuries, reducing opioid use after surgery and surgical care of biceps tendon tears.


Garnet Health President and CEO Scott Batulis announced today that he plans to retire as President/CEO of Garnet Health effective Jan. 1, 2022 after more than 15 years of service at the Hudson Valley’s premier health system. Garnet Health’s board of directors will begin a formal search and selection process soon and will appoint a new President and CEO of Garnet Health later this year. Batulis will remain in his current position for the remainder of his contract to the end of 2021 to ensure his replacement’s smooth transition. Afterward, he plans to serve Garnet Health as a consultant for six months and become an active volunteer.

Prior to joining Garnet Health in 2006, Batulis spent nearly 20 years with HealthEast Care System, a network of integrated care services including hospitals, clinics, rehabilitation and specialty care facilities, headquartered in St. Paul, Minnesota. Within this network, he held the positions of Vice President of HealthEast Care System, Chief Executive Officer of St. Joseph’s Hospital, and Chief Executive Officer for Bethesda Rehabilitation Hospital.

White Plains Hospital is pleased to announce the appointment of Dean J. Straff, MD, as Director of Emergency Medicine. In this role, Dr. Straff will be responsible for managing the clinical operations of the busiest emergency department in Westchester County. In addition to his clinical expertise in emergency medicine, Dr. Straff has a professional focus on driving quality improvement, enhancing patient experience and increasing hospital efficiency with the use of data analytics.

Dr. Straff previously served as the hospital’s Associate Director of Emergency Medicine. Prior to that, he was the hospital’s Assistant Director of Education and Simulation. Before joining White Plains Hospital, Dr. Straff was an emergency medicine attending physician at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center, where he also served as the Medical Director of the Emergency Physician Assistant Program. Dr. Straff’s extensive professional development includes a 15-month clinical quality fellowship with the Greater New York Hospital Association/United Hospital Fund and a training program with the American College of Emergency Physicians Emergency Department Directors Academy.

Dr. Straff completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Pennsylvania and received his medical degree from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University. Dr. Straff did his residency in emergency medicine at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital and The University Hospitals of Columbia and Cornell. He served as Chief Resident at Cornell, where he was awarded the Distinguished House Staff Award for all-around excellence.


Saint Joseph’s Medical Center has announced that Christopher Georgiou, MD, has joined Saint Joseph’s Medical Practice, PC, providing patient care related to all aspects of internal medicine at 909 Midland Avenue, Yonkers.

Dr. Georgiou has been a general internist with the New York Hotel Trades Council and Hotel Association of New York City, Inc. Employee Benefit Funds since 1996. Prior to joining Saint Joseph’s, Dr. Georgiou had a medical practice in Long Island City. Dr. Georgiou’s clinical responsibilities will include providing the essentials of primary care medicine, which incorporates an understanding of disease prevention, wellness, substance abuse, mental health and effective treatment of common problems of the eyes, ears, skin, nervous system and reproductive organs. Dr. Georgiou also provides long-term, comprehensive care in the office, managing both common and complex illness of adolescents, adults and the elderly, including the diagnosis and treatment of cancer, infections and diseases affecting the heart, blood, kidneys, joints and digestive, respiratory and vascular systems.

Dr. Georgiou is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and will be affiliated with Saint Joseph’s Medical Center. He received his medical degree from St. George’s University School of Medicine and has a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry from New York University. He completed his internal medicine residency at New York Medical College Consortium, Saint Vincent’s Medical Center of Richmond in Staten Island. He has held positions as staff nephrologist at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City and at Lower Manhattan Dialysis.

Dr. Georgiou is a member of the American Society of Nephrology, American College of Physicians and New York State Chapter of the Associates Council of the American College of Physicians.


Two of Westchester’s leading breast surgeons, Andrew Ashikari, MD, FACS, and Pond Kelemen, MD, FACS of The Ashikari Breast Center in Dobbs Ferry and Cortlandt Manor, NY, have joined Northwell Health Physician Partners (NHPP). They will now be accepting patients at two state-of-the-art locations: the Breast Care Center at Northern Westchester Hospital (NWH) in Mount Kisco and NHPP Breast Surgery at Phelps Hospital in Sleepy Hollow.

Dr. Ashikari has been Director of the Ashikari Breast Center since 1999. He is the former Chair of Surgery at Hudson Valley Hospital Center, and former Director of Surgery at Dobbs Ferry Pavilion/St. John’s Riverside Hospital. He was the Assistant Director of the surgical residency program at Our Lady of Mercy Medical Center from 2001–2003. In addition, he is an Associate Professor of Surgery at New York Medical College and Adjunct Clinical Associate Professor at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Dr. Kelemen joined the Ashikari Breast Center in 2003 as Research Director and has served as the Director of the Melanoma Program at Hudson Valley Hospital Center. Before that, he was Director of Clinical Breast Cancer Research at Our Lady of Mercy Medical Center. Prior to that, he was Associate Director of Clinical Activities at the Saint Louis University Cancer Center and Director of the Breast Center at St. Louis University Hospital. In addition, he serves as an Associate Professor of Surgery at New York Medical College and as Adjunct Associate Professor of Surgery at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.

He completed his surgical oncology fellowship at the John Wayne Cancer Institute, a general surgical residency and research fellowship at University of Chicago Hospitals, and pathology residency at University of Illinois at Chicago. He received his medical degree from the State University of New York at Stonybrook and holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the City University of New York-City College of New York six-year medical program.


Garnet Health Doctors is pleased to announce that Chujun Yuan, MD, PhD, has been appointed Associate Medical Director of Behavioral Health for Garnet Health Doctors.

Dr. Yuan oversees the operations of inpatient Behavioral Health Units at Garnet Health Medical Center and Garnet Health Medical Center – Catskills. He works on the integration of emergency room and inpatient care of patients needing behavioral health support across the Garnet Health System.

Dr. Yuan joined Garnet Health Doctors in July 2018. As a psychiatrist, he specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of eating disorders, depression, mood and anxiety disorders, attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder, as well as addiction therapy.

Dr. Yuan earned his doctorate in biochemistry and biophysics from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry in Rochester, NY. He obtained a Master’s of Science from the National University of Singapore in Singapore and a Master’s of Medicine in pathophysiology from the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences in Beijing, China and Peking Union Medical College in Beijing, China. Dr. Yuan received his medical degree from Qingdao Medical College in Shandong, China and completed his residency at Nassau University Medical Center’s Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences in East Meadow, NY, where he served as Chief Resident of Academics and Research. Dr. Yuan also completed his internship at Nassau University Medical Center and is a member of the American Psychiatry Association and the Association of Chinese American Physicians.
